Laboratory benchtop techniques and apparatus are among the most important areas of subject matter knowledge, even though they rarely serve as the central subject matter of a passage. The lab techniques are mentioned, sometimes incidentally, in the portions of passages describing experimental workflow. Be alert to it whever you see a specific lab technique mentioned because a question about it is usually on its way.
